18 and Under State Indoor Netball Trials (Girls and Mixed) this Sunday Jan 22

January 19th, 2012

Indoor Sport Victoria are holding their 18 and under trials starting this Sunday Jan 22.

This is for “Indoor Netball” - i.e. the kind that they play at the indoor sports centres, enclosed by netting (same courts as indoor cricket and soccer).  If you haven’t played this type of netball before don’t let this stop you - we have had players trial successfully in the juniors with no previous experience on the netted courts.

For parents who might be interested, there is also a 30 and over section - call the number below for more information as the trials may be on different days.

Note: it’s called “Aged” but this is to distinguish from “Junior” rather than implying elderly participants! Girls and boys turning 16, 17 or 18 this year are invited to trial.

Jess McNamara selected for Victoria 17/U!

December 7th, 2011

We are proud to announce that long-time Melbourne Waverley junior player Jess McNamara has been selected for the state 17 and under team.

The team was announced on Monday, and despite a difficult year with injuries, Jess was able to prove her abilities during an intensive training and selection process.

Juniors and parents might remember Jess from the recent Dawn Mudrinsky cup on club night, where she won the Nicole Lindley medal for best player.

Jess commenced with Melbourne Waverley in 2007 spending her first couple of weeks in the 13/U-2’s and progressing after a couple of weeks into 13/U-1 to be coached by Cath Haynes.

After a couple of seasons she progressed into 15/U-1 whilst still under Cath Haynes, was talent identified at the Knox Regional Tournament in 2010 and trialled and successfully gained a position in the 2011 Eastern Zone Academy.

Jess was selected and played in the Monash University Central 19/U VNL team in 2011 and returned on completion of the VNL season to be coached by James Burridge in our 17/U-Prem team.

On the completion of this year’s Zone Academy a round robin was conducted over a weekend. 50 athletes were identified and the following week this was cut to 25. Following this several training sessions were held over a period of three weeks, on completion of which a final selection process took place. Jess and 11 other girls were selected and will represent Victoria in Tasmania in April 2012.

Jess congratulations on this amazing achievement. Best wishes for a successful tournament next year and for your ongoing netball career.

Match Report: 13/U-4 vs. Boroondara

December 1st, 2011

On behalf of the club, thanks to IzzI Morgan for giving us our best match reports ever, all throughout this season. IzzI you have put in so much effort and we all appreciate it very much and are very impressed by your reporting abilities - have a wonderful Christmas! Here is the final report for the year from IzzI:

Match Report: 13-4’s vs Boroondara Power - 1/12/11

* Christmas Style! * Christmas Style! * Christmas Style! * Christmas Style! * Christmas Style! *

Note: I think I’m going to do this match report a little Christmassy! What an AWESOME last game for the season! This would have to have been one of our best games all season. I felt like I played well and so did all the other girls. It was the perfect way to finish of the season. Ceilidhe and Elise worked Brilliantly together in Defence! While Elise was stopping the GA from getting into the circle, Ceilidhe took intercepts therefore stopping the other team from scoring many goals in the second half.

Elise played one of her best games this year getting 3 intercepts and 1 rebound which was amazing! In Centre she used her 3 seconds perfectly taking time to look around and chose who to pass to. She did great intercepts tonight and she dodged really well. She was Awesome in GD! What an aggressive game she played! Exceptionally Exceptional Elise! (word has it that she will be an Awesome defender! You better get your autographs now people!)

Jemima: WOW! She’s Soo fast on the court! She followed up every ball and she led perfectly! She fed nicely and she got a few intercepts and a goal! She jumped for heaps of intercepts and got a few amazing ones! She ain’t just full of sparkles you know guys! Starry Jemima!

Lara: Man! Look at these statistics! She scored 6 goals, made 1 rebound and took 3 intercepts. She ticked all the boxes! She went for every ball and took Amazing shots at goal. What a Super Star Lara!

Ceilidhe: Her statistics were really good as well, getting her 1 intercept and 3 rebounds! She is nice and tall and she used that to her advantage tonight. Her defence was Really good and She got perfect rebounds! Cracking Ceilidhe!

Molly: GA - Great Attacker, GS - Great Shooter! Is she a GA or a GS? I do not know… Anyway she played another great game tonight she shot well and she led perfectly! She is so easy to work with and she knows how to rotate around the circle. She shot 3 of the 12 goals tonight. Joy to the world, Molly is here … uh, next line is … uh, well you get the point!

Hannah: She is SOO good in defence! She got a few intercepts and rebounds and they were Christmasful… I mean Wonderful! She is so versatile! I mean to go from GD to WA is amazing. I wonder how she does it??? She fights for the ball and she doesn’t stop trying. Tinsel toes Hannah!

Meg: She is super good at getting into space! If you are stuck with no one to pass to she will be there to help you out! She helped me out of a nearly 3 second pass once, gaining us another chance at goal! She catches really well and passes just as perfectly. Merry Meg!

Brooke: Wonderful Defence Brooke! She fought for the ball and chased after heaps of loose balls! She got 2 Intercepts! She played a great game tonight and she showed how much she has improved this year. What a Fairy Good Netballer!

Conclusion:

Well this is my last match report. The score was 12 - 21 and funnily enough the BEST game to finish the year on. Special Thanks to DI and Alex for being AWESOME coaches and Thanks to all the parents who took the time to take your kids to training and games and encouraging them. Without you this season would not have happened. And finally Thank you to all the players- you have been great friends and great netballers! This has been a great year and I look forward to next year.

Signing off for the last time in 2011,

IzzI Morgan!
